EMILIO SANTOYO
He was born in Mexico City, but mainly raised in California since the age of 4. He currently lives in sunny Los Angeles, California as an illustrator where I draw every day.
He learned he could make a living drawing after high school and at 21 after some misadventures he started full time at Art Center College of Design in Pasadena. Since graduating He has had the privilege of working on commercials, apparel, skateboards, cycling, ads, and murals. “I haven’t been bored in a really long time”, says.
Usually all work that he does has a backstory. A life event he had, a trip he took, a subject he is curious about, or even an inside joke within friends. He drew inspiration for many places.
Right now he has been very working on developing more videos. He started making gifs and animations using Photoshop, but he wanted to get better by now learning After Effects. “I just want to see things I create move. I am very excited about that”, explains.
The hardest thing he has ever done work wise is once he was part of an art show in Hollywood where they took a dump and transformed it into an awesome working space for an Art Show.
What inspires him to develop new ideas of work is life experience. “I am 31 and I am still discovering new things. Just last week I found out there are yellow watermelons in the world!”, expresses.
His favorite historical figure is Michael Jackson, because he got the world to Dance.
About music: “Its sort of a song, but I always tend to get this part of an old DJ Qbert album/movie called “Wave Twisters” I had to look it up, but its “inner Space Dental Commander”. It is a sounds sample he uses and it finds its way in my head sometimes”. And his favorite food is a burrito.
