Nicolas “Odö” Le Borgne es un artista francés que encaja perfectamente en el estilo popsurrealism o popsurrealista, caracterizado por combinar elementos de la cultura pop de manera surreal enun ambiente un tanto oscuro. Sus personajes, desde Mickey hasta los teletubbies, aparecen deformados y retorcidos en escenarios lúgubres, con un trasfondo irónico y humorístico.

Crecí en Jurançon, en el sudoeste de Francia, entre la montaña y el océano.

Soy artista pero también trabajo con diferentes marcas, haciendo patterns y como diseñador gráfico. Desde que tengo uso de razón siempre he dibujado. Soy un apasionado por el arte, no puedo dejar de dibujar, ¿por qué? creo que no hay una razón en particular, simplemente es así.

Normalmente trabajo en papel, con acuarelas, bolígrafos, tinta, café y rotring. Es un método preciso, suelo hacer mi dibujo directamente sobre la obra de arte final: primero hago un boceto con el rotring para tener una visión general. Después, pinto con acuarelas y vuelvo a retintar con los rotring para tener una línea perfecta, también lo uso para los pequeños detalles (pelo, madera…). A continuación uso el bolígrafo para la sombra. Y dejo para el final el fondo (con el pattern), el café y la pintura acrílica para las luces. Es un proceso largo, que a veces se prolonga durante más de un mes por ilustración.

Ahora mismo, estoy trabajando para una muestra conjunta en la Spacejunk gallery en septiembre; otra en París en la Galería Le gabinete des curieux, en octubre, y también

en una exposición individual Spacejunk gallery. Estoy tratando de mezclar pigmentos de acrílico con mi estilo de acuarela. También me gustaría hacer cosas más grandes.

Lo más difícil que he hecho es vivir del arte, que no siempre es fácil…

No hago pintura realista, por lo que la inspiración no me llega desde la realidad tal y como la veo. Cuando estoy creando una obra de arte siempre pienso en otra. Cada dibujo me ayuda a hacer el siguiente. Generalmente la inspiración me viene pintando.

No tengo un personaje histórico preferido, pero sí un monumento: las pirámides de Gyza, desde siempre y para siempre el misterio más grande dela tierra. ¿Cómo las hicieron, cómo salieron tan bien, con tanta matemática dentro…? Bueno, creo que es realmente interesante.

E cuanto a la música, elijo Das reinghold el preludio de Wagner. Y mi comida preferida es lo que cocina mi padre, que es mucho mejor que lo que te ponen en los restaurantes.

Mi talento secreto es cocinar tan bien como mi padre.

Y mi manera preferida para relajarme tras un día ajetreado es nadar o surfear en el océano.

Nicolas “Odö” Le Borgne is a French artist who fits perfectly in the style popsurrealism or lowbrow, characterized by combining elements from pop culture in a surreal dark environment. Their characters, from Mickey Mouse to the teletubbies, appear deformed and twisted in gloomy scenarios, with ironic and humorous undertones.

I grew up in Jurançon, it’s in south west of france between the mountain and the ocean.

I am an artist but I’m also working with different brands, pattern maker, graphic designer… Since I remember I have always draw and paint. I’m passionate by art, I can’t stop to draw, why? I think there is not a precise reason about that, it’s just like this.

I am working usually on paper, with watercolor, ballpoint pen, indian ink, coffee and rotring. It’s a precise method usually I do my sketch directly on the final artwork, I draw with the rotring the principal line to have an overview. After, I do the watercolor, I‘m using an other time the rotring to have a perfect line, and also all the little detail (hair, wood…), when all of that is finish I’m using the ballpoint pen, this is for all the shade. At the end the background (pattern), the coffee, and also acrylic for the lights. That’s long to make sometimes more than a month per artwork.

Right now, I’m working on different show, a group show in Spacejunk gallery in September, an other in Paris at the gallery Le cabinet des curieux in October, and working also on a new solo show with spacejunk gallery. I’m trying to mix acrylic pigment with my ‘watercolor style’. I would like also to do more big stuff.

The hardest thing I’ve ever done is living as an artist. That’s not easy every day…

I’m not doing realistic painting so, my inspiration does not coming from the reality, from what I see. When I’m doint an artwork I’m always thinking to an other. Every drawing help to make another. So usually it’s coming directly from my pen.

I haven’t got a favourite historical figure but a monument, the great pyramids of Gyza, such always and forever the biggest mystery on earth. How they make it, how they doing it so well, with so much mathematic inside… Well that‘s really interesting.

I choose Das reinghold the prelude from Wagner, for the music. And for the food it’s the food from my dad, really good food much better than restaurants.

My secret talent is making good food like my dad.

My favourite way to unwind after a busy day is swimming or surfing into the ocean.
