ENGLISH INFORMATION:
We dreamed of preparing something original for the twentieth anniversary and we decided to publish a book that showed the logos that we liked the most in our history. The figures speak for themselves: more than 50 logos and 47 artists, of which 3 have repeated (Steven “Grit”, Unbuentipo and Pedro Oyarbide) to celebrate the first two decades of publication.
All the stories have a beginning and, with the passage of time, they may become a legend. In the case of Staf Magazine, there is a certain mystique around the logos that appear monthly at the head of our website and we can affirm that they are a way of vindicating the analogical tradition of having something stable during a period of time in a colonized environment (and cannibalized) increasingly through social networks.
This small-scale artistic adventure began in 2005 with the logos that appear in the guards of this book. Its creator was Andy Howell, an artist who perfectly represents the philosophy of our publication and who also has the honor of being the founder of Element Skateboards. His way of working against the current has led him to be a pioneer in the D.I.Y. within the skate scene and to imagine skateboarding as a culture that not only encompasses sport, but also art, design and music. It took several years for the idea of ordering an original logo every month to an artist related to Staf Magazine to be fully consolidated.
The objective was to create synergies with artists and friends so that they could interpret the emblem of the magazine in their own way, collaborating actively and presenting their work to our readers in more than 70 countries. At first we thought it was an exorbitant proposal, but now we are proud of its magnitude and, above all, of having shown the work of many artists, both Spanish and international, covering disciplines such as graphic design, painting, typography and illustration. Many of them are not so popular, and others are big names in their creative scene (like Don Pendleton, who has a Grammy for his work with Pearl Jam), but at the head of our website they all have the same space in pixels and they receive the same treatment as geniuses.
