As the Mod revival gathers apace, it’s time to turn your attention to the finer threads in town. Merc Londonoffers up classics reinterpreted for the Modernist 2018 style, while Merc Originals continues to offer up the key staples for the style cognoscenti.

Merc London

No need to get yourself down and dirty, but this collection is focused around iconic workwear styles, recreated to tap in to the trend for all things ‘Urban Utility.’ A nod perhaps to the military parkas sported to keep your best suit fresh while heading down to Brighton on your scooter, military touches for a/w18 are put to a fine new wool melton jacket, a workwear shirt and a crew neck sweat with a utility pocket on the sleeve. It’s heritage sir, but not as we know it. Simple and clean silhouettes have a look of sophistication, with more than an air of gentlemen officers of the past. Metal trimmings, plush fabrics and functional detailing ensure you stand up to attention, and get all the right attention at the same time. It’s a masculine direction, combining fabrications, with a colour palette of greens and browns, and accents of brighter colours in trims and patterns to keep the look updated, and creative. The Merc tartan is in evidence on neck tapes and subtle labelling, just so you know this kit is fit for the ‘Soho strut’. Dig the new breed of Mod squad, coming to a town near you soon!

Merc Originals

A roots reboot once again sees Merc plunder its Mod archive of the 1960’s and 70’s, when any self- respecting snappy dresser headed to Carnaby Street for their fashion fix. That’s where Merc was born in 1967. Smart and functional jackets, slim silhouettes, vertical stripe polos with button-through front plackets, and fully-fashioned roll neck knits are the order of the day for a/w18, with vintage looks becoming new skool cool. The famous Merc Harrington returns in on-trend corduroy, another sure-fire seasonal hit in the making, while the heavy wool pea coat in dark khaki will take the edge off the winter chill, while keeping the wearer looking sharper than the Ace Face at the ‘Battle of Brighton’. Watch the cloth, moth.
